Oxford Bach Soloists

Bringing together performers and audiences in an immersive experience of the complete vocal works of Johann Sebastian Bach.

The Oxford Bach Soloists is a Baroque ensemble whose ambition is to perform, in sequence, the complete canon of J. S. Bach’s vocal works over 12 years. Founded by Tom Hammond-Davies (Artistic Director) in 2017, they offer a unique musical experience that converges composer, performer, and audience.

Their mission is distinctive and pioneering: while there have been many recordings and performances of the complete vocal works of J. S. Bach, no ensemble has ever mounted a cycle of performances in chronological order, programmed in real-time, and in the context for which they were conceived.

Wadham College

Tom is the Director of Music at Wadham College, Oxford, where he conducts the Chapel Choir and supports the programmes of events in the Holywell Music Room, Europe’s oldest purpose-built concert hall. The College has a strong musical tradition, and together with the student-led Wadham College Music Society, Tom facilitates musical activities and events across the College, creating spaces for new musical synergies and artistic expression. A regular rhythm of concerts and services provides a platform for public performance in the Chapel’s beautiful acoustic which boasts a grand piano, a harpsichord by Clayson & Garrett, a harmonium by Alexandre, and an organ that dates from 1878. The organ is one of the few instruments by ‘Father’ Henry Willis, the doyen of Victorian English organ builders, to survive without substantial modification of its tonal design.
